Smoking Policy
No person shall smoke tobacco or hold lighted tobacco in any residence room, enclosed public place or enclosed workplace at Trent University. This includes, but is not limited to, common rooms, elevators, exercise areas, hallways, garages, laundry facilities, lecture halls, lobbies, seminar rooms, theatres, University-owned vehicles, washrooms, and workshops.
Ashtrays are not permitted in enclosed workplaces, except vehicles where installed by the manufacturer.
Smoking outdoors is not permitted within 9 metres (30 feet) of any building. Outdoor ashtrays will not be located within the 9 metre (30 foot) limit.
Trent University shall not sell or supply tobacco products to persons under 19 years of age. Any University employee responsible for the sale of tobacco or tobacco products must understand and comply fully with the specific requirements of the Smoke Free Ontario Act and Ontario Regulation 48/06.
Trent University will post and maintain the proscribed “no smoking” signs at all building entrances and exits. An example of this signage is included as Appendix A.*
