Let’s Make A Deal: Details
Leave the Pack Behind kicks off the new year with our annual
“Let’s Make a Deal!” contest to encourage people
to quit smoking, reduce their cigarette intake or remain smoke-free.
The contest has four categories to suit regular and casual
smokers, ex-smokers, and non-smokers:
Deal 1: Don’t
Start and WIN!
- For non-smokers or ex-smokers.
- Contestant agrees to remain smoke-free during the contest
period.
Deal 2: Keep the Count!
Deal 3: Party Without the Pack!
- For any smoker who smokes when consuming alcohol
- Contestant agrees to not smoke while consuming alcohol.
Deal 4: Quit
for Good!
- For regular smokers who want to kick the habit.
- Contestant agrees to not smoke during the contest period.
One contestant from the “Quit For Good!”
category last year won a $500
Tuition-cut because they were able to
quit smoking for the eight weeks, donated generously by McMaster
President Dr. Peter George.
All contestants that complete their deal are eligible to
win gift certificates and prizes from a number of
our local and international sponsors!
In addition to our prize incentives, participants can enjoy
the health benefits and cost savings from reducing their consumption
or not smoking. A regular smoker consuming a pack a day who
completes the Quit For Good! deal could save more
than $500 during the contest period!
To help contestants successfully complete their deal, each
participant received a Survival Kit filled with freebies,
tips, resources and other items to help them through the contest.
Students could also sign up for peer support from the Leave
the Pack Behind team through phone or email, and staff were
available daily during office hours to provide resources and
cessation support.

registration booths in January 2010
NOTE: Contestants must sign up with a buddy
to help them monitor their progress and offer support. Contestants
and buddies will be given free goodies when they sign up at
our booth!
