NIAGARA COLLEGE

Niagara-on-the-Lake/Welland

Policy

September 3, 2010 Update

Smoke | Quit

In an effort to improve smoking control on campus, and promote a healthy environment for all students, staff and visitors, Niagara College will introduce an updated on-campus smoking policy this fall.

Designated smoking areas will be clearly identified, and each campus will include one area with an enclosed shelter with ample ventilation.

Welland Campus: located near the south entrance to Simcoe, smoking will also be permitted in the SAC outdoor patio, and in the designated areas at the Campus residence.

NOTL Campus: located at the edge of the East Parking Lot just across from the Main East Wing entrance, smoking will also be permitted in the SAC outdoor patio, and in the designated areas at the Campus residence. Please note that Smoking will no longer be permitted in the courtyard.

The updated policy will be strictly enforced by Campus security and outside law enforcement as necessary, and violators will be fined.

Niagara College supports smoking cessation strategies for staff and students, including strategies that include medical support through physician consultation, proven pharmaceutical aids and professional counselling.

For further information, contact Dian Thiessen, Acting Manager of Security and Parking at ext. 7350.
