Penalties for infractions may be up to $5,000.00!

100 percent smoke-free places now include:

education facilities

recreation/sports facilities

business facilities

child care facilities

religious facilities

reception and lobby areas

lunch rooms

lunch counters/stands

elevators and escalators

hallways and stairwells

food courts

restaurants that open into malls

retail stores

service lines and counters

theatres

laundry rooms transit shelters

taxi cabs

public washrooms

other places open to members of the public

Other smoke free places include:

Billiard Halls, Bingo halls, Bowling alleys, Gaming centres and Public halls: may have a maximum of 50% smoking in a continuous area (enclosed or unenclosed)

Workplaces:

May only allow smoking in an enclosed and separately ventilated smoking area that is a maximum of 25% of the total floor area.

Enclosed and Separately Ventilated Smoking Areas (Designated Smoking Areas):

must be fully enclosed and separately ventilated directly to the outside, must be ventilated at 15 litres per second per person, and must supply air at more than 90% of the exhaust rate.

No smoking signs must be clearly visible from all parts of non-smoking sections.

Health warning signs must be clearly visible from all parts of places where smoking is permitted.
