Quitting smoking is a multi-step process. It means changing
how you think and feel about smoking. Whatever stage you are
at, help and resources are available for you from Leave The Pack
Behind.

Step 1
PRECONTEMPLATION

is
the first stage
You are possibly thinking about quitting, but not ready to do so just yet.
In
STep 2 CONTEMPLATION
you are thinking
about quitting in the next 6 months. Although you may also
have
changes
of heart, sometimes wanting to quit and sometimes wanting
to keep smoking.
Step 3 PREPARATION
is
getting ready to quit. The quit date has been set and some
concrete steps towards quitting have been taken.
Step 4 ACTION
is
the start of the quitting process. It lasts from the first
day of quitting until 6 months later.
If you have recently quit smoking click here for
more information about this stage.
Step 5 MAINTENANCE
is
the final stage. It begins some 6 months after the actual quit
day. People in this stage can consider themselves ex-smokers.
